We are sure you will all agree that 2020 was a year like no other! The advent of a brand new year bought with it the hope, enthusiasm and renewed optimism.
Well 2021, it’s been an interesting start!
Choosing an 'A' game mindset to be ready for anything that comes our way in 2021, is crucial for not only our well being, but to ensure we step into our best performance both personally and professionally in 2021. An 'A' game mindset is when we maximise our key strengths and behaviours which are in our control, to feel productive and effective and get the best results we can for ourselves and those around us. It also gives us great purpose.
Choosing a 'B' game mindset, to be blatantly honest, focuses on all the 'bullshit' out of our control. This mindest ensures sub optimal performance every time. It makes us feel stressed, distracted, inefficient and ensures sub optimal results.
So how do we embrace an 'A' game mindset?
I was fortunate enough to hear a keynote address by Emma Murray, a leading high performance mindfulness coach a couple of years ago. Emma's credentials include working with the Richmond Football Club during their record breaking premiership wins in 2017, 2019 and 2020. Emma shared her tips to introduce daily habits into our lives to ‘flick the switch’ and ensure we step into our “A” game and our best performance every time - bringing positivity and energy to take on anything 2021 wants to throw our way! Hope you find them as useful as I did.
5 Tips to bring your 'A' game to 2021:
Tip 1 - Take control of your focus
It is so easy to focus on so many things, your energy gets diluted and you feel you are not doing anything right! Sound familiar? Having a 'B' Game mindset asks “How am I doing?” where 'A' game asks “What can I do?”
Own your one focus and take control of it.
Tip 2 – Learn to move your flashlight
We all know a flashlight has one focus. So should we. Learn to shift this focus toward your strengths not the danger of your weakness. Stop listening to or participating in the negative talk. We all know how draining that can be.
Tip 3 – Embrace your 'A' game
Speaking of your strengths - know them and use them. Identify the assets that are in your control. Play in this space and you will bring your best everytime.
Tip 4 – Say goodbye to your 'B' game
Don’t waste energy on the 'bullshit' out of your control, it will zap you dry! You need to make room for you’re 'A' game and there is no room for both!
Tip 5 – Embrace daily habits
Daily habits can assist with changing negative perceptions, building resilience and maintaining 'A' game mindsets. My favourite is daily gratitude – asking yourself each night what 3 things went well for you today. This is scientifically proven over time to have a significant impact on both physical and mental well being. Emma has launched 21 daily habits on her FB page which you may find useful – check her out on:
